Understanding Average Visit Duration

Are your web metrics distorted by IP addresses you wish you could exclude from your analytics data such as your development testing or you employees setting your home page as their default page? Webtrends Analytics lets you filter IP addresses that interfere with accurate information about qualified visitors to your site. It's simple.

Step 1: Create the filter. Click on the Hit Filters button in the left-hand column of the Marketing Lab 2 administrative console.

Click on "Exclude Exchange activity based upon the following Active Hit Filter Parameters." Then choose Address from the list of options. View screenshot

Step 2: Train the wizard. Type in the full IP address or the address range (using the asterisk wildcard character) that you want to exclude in the Hit Filter Wizard page. To increase filtering options, enter the domain name in the designated location as well. Save your changes. View screenshot

Step 3: Edit your profile to apply the filter. To retain your new filter in future analytics reports, you must edit your profile. First, click on Reports and Profiles in the left-hand column. Select your profile and then choose Edit. On the Edit Profile screen, click on Advanced, select Hit Filters, and then check the IP Address Filter box. Your subsequent analytics reports will exclude the IP addresses you don't wish to analyze. View screenshot
